There are very strict time limits within which you must file your appeal against a criminal conviction or sentence.
An appeal against a conviction must be filed within one (1) calendar month from the date of your conviction. An appeal against a sentence must be filed within one (1) calendar month from the date of your sentence.
You should note that these two dates may be different days if you were convicted on one day and sentenced on another.
The court does have the power to hear appeals filed out of time, but the circumstances under which they will do this are extremely limited.
If you wish to appeal against a conviction or sentence, you should seek legal advice as a matter of urgency.
If you are unable for any reason to make an appointment to see a solicitor within the given timeframe, you should consult Legal Aid Queensland's Guide to Self Represented Appeals, which will assist you to file the relevant notice on your own behalf.
